The forecast called for gradual improvement -- none was seen.
Cloudy at base.
42 other cars in parking area.  Some were there for the Ravine Lodge.
Nice breeze blowing down the Snapper trail.
Carriage Road was very easy climbing.
Looked like there would be great views along Carriage road if not for cloud ceiling at 3000 ft.
Got to south summit without resting.
Took a photo then off to main summit.
40 MPH wind as I approached the summit.
And about 45 degrees.
Spent a minute at summit and decided to return the way I came as there was nothing to see and I knew I'd be out of the wind shortly.
63 cars in parking area.
It's suposed to take 3:25 to reach the second summit, I was there in 2:13 and back down in 3:58.

Actual Hike

Saturday, October 3, 2003
Will and I drove to Zealand trail head.
We noticed Moosilauke was clear as we drove through Plymouth.
Then we saw the Lafayette Ridge was beautifully frosted.
As we drove through Twin Mountain the white on the mountains extended further down towards the valley.
On Zealand Road the was snow on the shoulders.
At the trail head there was an inch of snow on some parked cars.
We both got bad vibes.
I suggested bagging it and doing Moosilauke.

10 other cars in parking area.
We took Gorge Brook trail to Snapper trail to Carriage Road.
There was snow in the shade all along the paths.
Great views along Carriage Road.
The south summit was beautiful.
10 MPH wind and about 40 degrees.
Visibility over 50 miles or about 5280 times as far as it was my previous visit six days ago.
Took Gorge Brook trail down as fellow hiker said it was pretty.
Probably four nice viewpoints, but not as good as Carriage Road.

It's supposed to take 3:25 to reach the second summit, we took 2:45 and back down in 5:00.
