On Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002 Linda, Ruane and I drove past Pitcher Mountain on Route 123 in Stoddard, NH N43 5.625 W72 8.112 We needed a stretch and parked in a lot at a sign proclaiming "Pitcher Mountain Fire Tower". The parking lot is at an elevation of 1870 feet. We walked up a steep dirt road to the summit at 2165 feet. "Fy-a Tow-a" is apparently New Hamsha speak for "Amazing View". We climbed the tower to the deck below the enclosed observation platform. As I looked at the door to the enclosed platform, it opened. The on-duty rangerette invited us in/up. Then she pointed out various peaks, weather conditions, locations of past fires, etc. We saw a snow covered Mt LaFayette 82 miles away. It was snowing on Mt Killington. Mt Monadnock 16 miles to the South dominated that part of the skyline.
