Site 1 – Oakland,
NJ
9:00 I arrived at Oakland,
NJ.
I talked with Andy (Sean Macomber’s deputy).
Their network is a 16-port switch which is full.
I unplugged one of the idle cables and insinuated an 8-port
switch into the system.
I plugged the idle cable into the new switch.
We found a 6’ step ladder.
I had just started stringing the wire from the network room
when Andy asked, “What would it take to get network access in the
conference
room?”
The conference room is 5 feet past the time clock.
So, I taped a 100’
cat5 to the 50’
that I was pulling.
I taped a cat5 junction to my snake which made an easy way
to uncouple the cable from the snake.
I pulled the two wires to the time clock and continued the 100’
on to the
conference room.
I then populated the conference room with 4 different
colored cat5 and my other 8-port switch.
Red, Yellow, Purple
and Blue if you must know.
I borrowed 4 dry-wall anchors from Andy. He
let me have the remaining dozen as well.
I attached the time clock to the wall and connect it to
power and data.
The wall-wart for the old clock covered both outlets, so I
used one of our surge-suppressing power strips.
I configured the time clock as per our instructions.
I forgot to note Oakland’s
gateway’s IP
address ahead of time, so I had to go look it up.
I then ran TIBBO\DS Manager but could not get anywhere.
I called Roger and he pointed out that I needed to “select”
the only IP address shown before I could click “Settings...”.
I changed the IP address and then could not remember the
next step.
So, I called Steven.
He reminded me of the network drive where “other” time clock
software is.
I went there and ran “JATW32.exe” or something like that.
It took forever (3-4 minutes) to load.
By then, Steven had informed the system of the “044 Oakland NJ”
time clock at 10.109.8.99.
I then looked at a spare LA120 which they would like to
place into service as a spare. It had no
jet-direct so I told them to call Salem.
By now it was 11:50, so I beat a hasty retreat to Burger
King.
Site 2 – Lincoln
Park, NJ
13:00 I arrived at Lincoln
Park, NJ
The building looks much nicer than I feared.
They have 12’ ceilings, an 8’ step ladder and Joanne the
Office Administrator.
We talked about putting the new clock where the old one is,
but Darius hopes to convert the break room into and office eventually.
We talked about putting the clock in the hall near the
“Mens” department, but there is no power there.
We settled on the main entrance where power was plentiful.
It looked like another 40’, so I got a 100’.
I’m already better with the snake, so it went faster.
I attached a surge-suppressing outlet cover.
As I did, half of one of the outlets came off with the old
cover.
They must have used strong paint.
I configured the time clock as before, no surprises.
I ran the windows “software” and did its thing.
Darius’ wish list included another drop as two of his desks
share a Cat5 A/B “switch”.
One leg of the switch was 25’,
so I co-opted it, ran it across
the ceiling (5 tiles the narrow way) and down to a waiting PC.
I was done at 15:00.
I plotted a course to Piscataway
(1 hour) and set off with the intention of going there.
It started to pour and traffic started to crawl.
At 15:45 I took the exit for my Hotel.

Site 3 – Piscataway,
NJ
08:30 arrived in Piscataway,
NJ
There’s a hardware store across the street.
Existing time clock is attached to wooden paneling outside
of dispatch room.
I went to hardware store and bought 2 bits, 10 screws and
washers.
There was a networked computer in dispatch room, 5’ feet
from where I needed a drop.
I installed last night’s switch.
Drilled enough holes in both sides of wall to feed power and
cat5 through.
Attached time clock to wall with brass wood screws and 3/8”
washers.
Clock configured fine.
Done at 10:00.
Re-installed pc-anywhere on Tony’s machine, he had been
getting some kind of message during boot.
Added administrator privileges for Michael_Kusic to former
Kim Cooper machine.
Set up outlook, ie and kea, plus quick launch.
Left at 10:30
Site 4 – Middlesex,
NJ
11:00 arrive at Middlesex.
They could have filmed any "Terminator" movie here..
At least time clock wants to be only 10’ from network
cabinet.
George says, “We’re closing soon, I don’t know why we need
this.”
Old time clock is bolted to plywood, with plenty of room for
another.
Drill, drill, screw, screw.
The ceiling was sagging badly, so I used a 50’
and ran it
along the perimeter.
Done.
12:30 can’t get out of there fast enough.
13:10 Nathan’s hot dogs.
Site 5 – Bellmawr,
NJ
APM
14:00 arrive in Bellmawr (Puritan)
Check out site.
They want clock 60’ from network.
Their 8-port switch has 2 openings.
I pull 2 100’
over Ladies, Mens, corner of main office, thru
hole 14’ up on wall, across kitchen to far wall.
The hole 14’ off of the ground was tough, I had a 6’ step
ladder which I stood on the top of. I
could just touch a hole where conduit went through.
When I tried to push the cat5 through it
would not cross to the far side.
I borrowed a ruler and taped it to the cat5 (insert Viagra
joke here), it then went through easily.
Installed clock 5’ up due to limited space.
Ran cat5 inside wall.
Showed Carl the job.
He showed me where he would like the other cable to
end. 50’
away, beyond the kitchen.
I get back up in kitchen ceiling, no way out.
I pull cat5 back out of kitchen, along back of office,
around corner, around corner, to cinder block wall with tiny hole in it.
I fished the wire through with help of hook shaped
twist-tie.
Along another ceiling.
The 100’
went 1’ into the room at the 12’ ceiling height.
I used a cat5 connector and added a 25’
to it.
